Head Coach

Mark Pompi

Hockey Background/Philosophy:
Coach Pompi grew up playing ice hockey in upstate New York where he played on the Southern Tier Hockey League elite traveling teams that competed out of the Binghamton, NY area. Throughout his playing career, he participated in numerous high-level summer hockey camps and eventually earned a full scholarship to the University of Massachusetts for football where he participated in two NCAA bowl
games throughout five years of varsity athletics.
After graduating from U-Mass, in the early nineties, coach Pompi accepted the boys varsity head coach position at Holyoke High School in Holyoke, MA where he and the Purple Knights competed in an extremely competitive Western MA hockey league. For the last two seasons, coach Pompi has acted as the Director of Coaching for the Springfield Cougar Ice Hockey Club and as the head coach for the Haverford Hawks Squirt and Peewee teams. During the past two Christmas holidays he worked as the founder and director of a developmental day hockey camp running between the Christmas and New Year holiday.

Coach Pompi’s hockey philosophy is geared towards positional play. Pompi’s concept of position begins with body position where he devotes extensive practice time towards getting his players in the right posture to make plays on the ice. From a team perspective, his philosophy includes a three-zone approach that requires players to make sound individual decisions to influence team results. Finally, Coach Pompi believes that all players are obligated to respect each of their teammates, coaches, opponents, officials, and parents in order to achieve success on the ice.
