(NOTE: like any driving directions/map you should always do a reality check and make sure the roads still exist, watch out for construction, and follow all traffic safety precautions. This is only to be used as an aid in planning.)
Using the Hilton Dedham Place,
Dedham MA directions where those
directions place you on I-95 (SR 128 / Yankee Division Hwy) between Exits 23/24
and 14, begin the following directions.
Warning: Most mapping
programs do not know how to deal with Massachusetts "roundabouts"
(circles). If you are following a direction and you come upon a
"roundabout", proceed as if it was just a multiple street
intersection. In other words, if your directions say to make a left, and
you encounter a "roundabout", look at the "roundabout as if it
were the face of a clock and you were entering it at 6 o'clock. The street
nearest 9 o'clock is likely the street you were to turn left onto.
Obviously taking the street nearest 12 o'clock is considered going straight and
the street nearest 3 o'clock is a right.
Note that the Hilton Dedham Place is at Exit 14 of 128 / I-95. This is South of the following exits.
Athletic Facility Dexter School (Olympic Rink) and Thorndike Rink
Dexter School (NHL Rink)
20 Newton Street
Brookline Ma. 02146
(617) 524-9377
(617) 522-5544
The rink with parking on top is a modern facility and you can park on top, walk down the stairs and get to either rink. However, the lower rink is nothing more than a slab of ice and a place to play a game. The locker rooms are small but adequate but there are only two or three locker rooms, so during overlapping games, some team is relegated to locker room "A". A wooden shed door on a "breezy" room that's not as good as the shed in your back yard, only holds about 5 people and doesn't have rubber mats on the floor. You're actually better getting dressed out in the rink. The boards are an unusual height, so be careful when you jump over. Watch your step when you walk. Many of the rubber floor tiles are missing, broken or have grit embedded in them. Put your skates on at the last minute and make sure your skate blades don't touch the cement floor. Better yet, don't take your blade guards off 'till you're on the ice. The ice surface is poor and gritty. You'll want to have your skates sharpened after skating on this ice. Neither rink has concessions or a pro shop.
